In
fall of 1999, the
Soda Aquatic
Center opened on the
grounds of Campolindo High School in Moraga. It was a joint
project between the Acalanes School District and the Orinda
based Soda Charities. The center now serves all district
students and community members. The year-round facility has an
Olympic-size competition pool, a diving pool and a lap pool. The
center includes a community room, dressing rooms, and concession
stand. Olympic swimmer Matt Biondi grew up in Moraga and
swimming is still going strong here for all ages.

Did
You Know?
Most of
Moraga was built since the building boom of 1960. Moraga got an
early start during the Gold Rush Days in California and actually
had 200 residents in 1860. However, over the years the area was
owned by several parties and major development didn't really
successfully start until the 1960’s. So Moraga got a later
start than Orinda or Lafayette.
Moraga
History: Many
of the streets in Moraga were named after early settlers:
Merrill, Sanders, Irvine, Harrington, Hunsaker, Windeler, Carr,
Southard, Carroll, Brandt, etc. Moraga has more of a
"neighborhood or subdivision feeling" than Orinda or
Lafayette. Many buyers preferring that convenience have been
attracted here for that reason. Prior to development much of the
land was orchards and farmlands. The center piece of Moraga
today is still a large peach orchard that puts on a spectacular
show of blooms each spring.
The original Spanish land grant was named
“Rancho Laguna de los Palos Colorados” (The Lake of the
Redwoods Ranch). Original settlers found hundreds of acres of
redwood trees in the Oakland hills just minutes from today's
Moraga. Unfortunately, early logging removed the majority of
trees. However, Chabot Park is still just 10 minutes from Moraga
and serves as a public campground nestled in the magnificent
Redwood grooves.
The mild
weather, natural beauty, friendly people, top schools, proximity
to so many wonderful California locations...it's not perfect...
but almost, and we LOVE it here!
